It is with deep sadness that we receive the news of the passing of Prof Yoong Boon Koon.

         Prof Yoong was a pioneering council member of ASEAN LHC, and it was his tireless work with the committee that had grown this group from a small interest group to what it is today. It was through his efforts as a leader, role model and skilled surgeon that many young surgeons not just in Malaysia, his home country, but in the ASEAN community, grew to take up MIS HPB surgery. Boon Koon was a close friend as we worked together in the mission of the council, for the safe and practical adoption of minimally invasive HPB surgery in our region.

          Our deepest condolences go out to all his colleagues and friends in HPB and surgical fraternity in Malaysia, as well as his beloved family. We have been fortunate to have had so many interactions and happy moments sharing, working, dining and planning with him over the years in the various meetings and gathering as one ASEAN LHC family. May his legacy as visionary and humble leader, faithful friend and caring family man live on. Rest in peace dear friend.
